No no... Not like that.
The chrome trim in the door and bumper molding is hazed. Well, the plastic coating is. Everything I've tried doesn't last. Headlight polish, waxes, rubbing compound, toothpaste... So I figured I would try that chrome film that some people think looks good when applied to their rocker panels. This is the result.
You can see on the left how it looks after trying to polish it back. The right is my first attempt at a "wrap". It is hard to get in those tight corners. The orange peel cause by the oxidizing plastic shows through.
Looks a little better the further away you get.
The trim on the front bumper is in surprisingly OK shape. It was never a mirror type chrome, somewhere between mirror and polished aluminum. The back bumper is the worst, but it wraps around the entire back end, one continuous piece from the back of one wheel to the back of the other. And given the geometry of curves, I would probably need a sheet bigger than what I can easily pick up at a store. It is definitely an improvement over the hazy plastic. But considering what a pain that one foot or so was to do, I might have the rest done professionally.

Prep and sand, and then apply. Will fix the smoothness issue, seems like the easiest fix outside of replacing them altogether.

I think if I get around to having it done, I would probably handle that part myself.

You could plastidip them black or white. It's a nice consistent matte finish that can easily be removed.
